Architectural titanium is shipped to the fabricator with a protective PVC film coating that has excellent resistance to weathering. PVC should be kept on the titanium sheet during fabrication and installation. Only after all other trades are off the construction site should this PVC film be removed. This will prevent other trades from damaging or contaminating the titanium cladding>
Titanium is prone to fingerprinting – another reason to keep it protected with PVC film during handling. Fingerprints leave oil on the titanium oxide and interfere with the aesthetic metallic luster. However, titanium is easily cleaned using a soft cloth and a diluted detergent (such as Sparkle or Simple Green) or mild soapy water. If this proves ineffective, the use of an organic solvent such as alcohol or benzene is recommended.
